Once again, Congress, under both parties, created an imperial presidency from WWII onward that depended entirely on shared norms about democracy/the rule of law & not abusing that delegated executive authority that no longer exists. When we get through this, <all> of these things need to go.
In a 1983 opinion by Ted Olson(!), DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel concluded that assigning JAG lawyers to serve as Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys violated a statute that bans military officers from exercising the duties of a civil office.

Then, Congress authorized it.

This is dumb—but legal.

And yeah, they have a browser extension to import stuff from the web. You can also upload (non locked down) epubs. Then you can read those from the app. Lots of stuff in their library has associated audio and the ai-generated audio from text isn't too bad, either.

Yup, it's worth a shot. There might be some other apps out there that do something similar, but I've stuck with this one for a while. I find it's good for slow/close reading, and for reading when you're pretty comfortable and just need help on a few words a page. Costs money, tho.

I use and love lingq, which is less gamified and more a way to read texts in a foreign language with a lot of help. They have some starter materials but eventually you'll need to bring your own.
