I was thinking the Brigmans. Wait, there's an NTI standing right behind me, isn't there...

When the leaders of the anti-democratic movement were standing in the Oval Office depicting themselves as the true champions of democracy, after a lifetime of "two wolves and a sheep" / "republic not a democracy" rhetoric...

I go from the archives with the Klan marching down every Main Street in America talking about "Americanism," "America First," "Law and Order," and all their anti-immigrant and crime hysteria about the fall of Western Civilization.

And then have s*** like this in my social media feed today:
November 29, 2025 at 10:27 AM
Just getting a ton of fascist propaganda from the federal government in my facebook feed lately. The war for Western Civilization rhetoric is straight out of old-school fascist propaganda.

And "Americanism" is 1920s Klan rhetoric. Full stop.

American proto-fascist and fascist movements have long had a different vision for America. It was often mainstream and never as fringe as folks outside of it would like to believe.

Even the white supremacist "Great Replacement" theory comes out of old "peril" and "race suicide" fears:
November 28, 2025 at 10:01 PM
Almost everything about the MAGA movement is aped from century old Klan and eugenic arguments about race and those deemed non-assimilable to "Americanism" or "Western Civilization."

Heck, the Klan also marketed it under "America first" and "law and order" rhetoric:
November 28, 2025 at 10:01 PM
It was a pretty mainstream vision of America a century ago when eugenics and the second Klan movement were also mainstream.

Their anti-immigrant hysteria led to the eugenicist and white supremacist Reed-Johnson Act severe restrictions on immigration outside of Western Europe.

There is a really great Deadpool short series that addresses this at it applies to comic book characters, teams, tropes, etc: Deadpool Killustrated.

Of course, he was trying to destroy even the ideas that lead to his existence. Like putting normal size cats on Lilliput:
November 26, 2025 at 5:13 PM
I see this a lot in the far-right backlash against "divisive" textbooks over the last century. History, for them, is a tool of nationalism.

Any dilution of "true history" into critique, nuance, or objective reality undermines the nation and only helps those who seek to destroy "us."

He ends with Seneca, but also two of Umberto Eco's classic fascist characteristics (one finds in overwhelming combination in fascist movements):

9) Life for struggle: pacifism is therefore collusion with the enemy...

11) Cult of death. Everyone is trained to become a hero.

It's so bad. Every excerpt that pops up in my feed feels like I'm having my brain melted through the screen like that episode of Fringe.

Every time I see an excerpt in my social media feed, I feel like the people having their brain melted through the screen in that episode of Fringe.

Every time I see them on their "happy marriage" bulls*** I think back to the Valentine's Day hush money check Trump wrote from the White House to cover up his affair with a porn star.
November 17, 2025 at 7:31 PM
For "fascism" word police: I'm using the term "fascist theater" in the sense of "the organized manipulation of public perception by a fascist movement, organization or regime through the media and spectacle."

I using Griffin's definition of fascism and Umberto Eco's checklist of characteristics.

I'm sure the House majority can't wait to rush back to rubber stamp the Senate Democrats complete capitulation to Trump and celebrate their victory.

Senate Democrats meanwhile assure us they're still fighting for us with aggressive submission:
November 11, 2025 at 6:18 AM
They literally have no guarantee of anything. They didn't just capitulate for empty promises. They're lying to our faces about it and had a bunch of people who can't be primaried next year do the dirty work.
November 10, 2025 at 5:42 AM
So @durbin.senate.gov sold us out for the empty promises of a liar who breaks his promises. Relying on the "good faith" of a regime that is still waging a war and economic sanctions on his constituents here in Illinois.

So much for his legacy.

As an outsider who observes meetings in the more radical spaces, activist spaces, leftist spaces, liberal spaces, and party establishment space… each thinking it's under attack by the others.

When they complain about it, the other ones feel like they're under attack too. All the Spider-Men.

I'm usually further back in the interwar period watching far-right Republicans (especially aligned with the second Klan movement) clash with pro-business and "liberal" Republicans in the North.

Although "pussyfooter" or "New Deal" was a more popular internal insult than RINO in the 1950s:
