One crisis after another.
Calvin and Hobbes exhibit at the Fenimore Art Museum -- ends this month. Took about an hour and 15 minutes to check it out. Cooperstown is more than just baseball.

My brother-in-law lent me Ringworld by Larry Niven. I read about 30 pages and could not get into it. This was a third printing soft cover, November 1971. I have a few of Niven's collaborative books that I liked (read 35+ years ago), but this one seemed too contrived.

Finished reading The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, 2022 William Morrow version. It is a comprehensive work, with many illustrations by JRR himself. But, also like reading a history book. It took me about a month to work through it. An awesome work.

This weekend I reread Damnation Alley, the Roger Zelazny classic. It is a good book, but gets a little wandering toward the end when describing weather phenomenon, like Zelazny does when there is movement between worlds in the Amber books. I can't figure out how the cover art relates to the story.

This is a lot in the same neighborhood cleared a few weeks ago. Evergreen it is not.

Over the past several years there have been a lot of teardown and rebuilds in Fairfax VA. Often they clearcut the lot, removing all of most of the trees. This lot is on Elizabeth Lane, by Little River Turnpike and Guinea Road. Lots of solid, mature oak, poplar, and maples gone.

Hello. I just finished Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. It always makes me laugh. His feelings about Nixon make clear that history recycles.

Just finished Beserker by Saberhagen. It was really good. Took me a bit to find a copy, but worth it.

I am thinking about making a coffee table book about boathouses on Fourth Lake, near Inlet and Old Forge, NY. Some are modern, some are old, and none are straight after 12 months on the lake. I took this picture in July, during the morning.

Just read the six books of Lost swords by Fred Saberhagen. Rereading some older things I have around. These Science Fiction book club additions were good!
