Our democratic breakthrough in 1848 was led by Joseph Howe, Louis-Hippolyte LaFontaine and Robert Baldwin. Many European countries became democracies in 1848. But they quickly lost it.

Tomorrow, March 11, is the 177th Anniversary of Democracy in Canada. We called it 'Responsible Government' then. The same had happened in Nova Scotia February 2, 1848.
