As I understand things, it's truly a massively successful instance of a political right shifting the Overton window so perfectly that the center-left is still cowering before the same ideology's right-wing media stewards.
I know immigration fits in here, too (but mostly post-Syria?), but still ....

Ugh, sorry to hear this & think you're right. Not to draw a direct equivalence but it's as bad as the common Anglophone assumption that 'foreign' historians working in their native language & on their own nation's history are ineluctably 'nationalist' (as opposed to EN-monoglot 'global' histories).
