Bigger schools just adopted a playoff system but kept the bowl games. Smaller schools always had the playoff system but never the different bowl games.

In the 1990s, I regularly watched "The Nanny" muted, listening to music. Took my 1st wife forever to notice i was listening to new wave, but gawking at Fran Drescher the whole time.
