I don’t really like newsome, but he’s a savvy politician to a fault almost. Unfortunately, unless we can get money out of politics, a successful candidate has to cozy up to a rich donor(s) that is going to piss off the base.
I don’t really know how to get around that.

While I agree with you, compared to most of the candidates many of the states see running for governor he is one of the more liberal.
I live in AK and moderates here think he’s basically a socialist, to your point, but there’s not been anyone as left as newsome on a statewide ticket here, ever.
