We absolutely know that Oswald killed Kennedy. The evidence is overwhelmingly strong and no other theory adds up. But if you study any event in enough detail, oddities and coincidences will appear, and our brains are incredibly susceptible to creating narratives out of fragments.

I think you’re shifting the goalposts here a bit. There have been strong norms in liberal democracies that governments remained bound by contracts entered into before they took office and against retrospective legislation long before ISDS.
