I’d add that Notre Dame de Bonsecour, overlooking the old port, is a beautiful and interesting church. For generations it was regarded as the sailor’s church, and the art reflects that. The 17-century roots can be visited in the cellar.

(3) The idiosyncratic paired sculptures at Place d’Armes symbolizing the sometimes awkward pairing of cultures that defines the city.

We have terrific candidates for our school board election, and I just wanted to put in a word for Dashad Cooper. He’s the only one of the candidates with whom I’ve worked, and his basic decency is clear to everyone who knows him. Great at listening, seeing all sides of an issue, calm and selfless.

This might be the most exciting cultural event in our town this year! Victory Hall Opera is presenting “Gullah Meditations,” a performance of a collection of African-American spiritual songs from St. Helena Island, SC, which are mostly unknown by people outside of that region.

The sign on the desk is generating a lot of questions that are already answered by the sign.

Amazing to note that this is a view I enjoy on my walk to the service center to pick up my car. (#Charlottesville.)
