And since I skipped yesterday, our cornucopia overflows.

The greatest right foot in rock drumming history? Jimi Hendrix was awed by it. Would there even be “rock drumming” as we know it without John Bonham? Thankfully we need not wonder.

Today we have reason to be grateful: we commemorate a man who spent less than 5 yrs w/ James Brown but who shifted our entire culture in the process.

This playlist contains my single favorite drumming performance: “Give it Up or Turn it A Loose.” It’s the funky drummer himself, Clyde Stubblefield.

Somehow our decaying Washington Post still employs one of the great culture writers in the country. He’s consistently thought provoking about all sorts of music.

Today is a special day. Today we break every drumming rule. We play so loud that people flee and so softly that it barely registers. We worship Bo Diddley. No cymbals. No curse words. If you close the door, the night could last forever.

Today we salute Maureen Tucker, subject of BACKBEATS ch. 7.

Week 2 starts with the man who brought soul drumming to country music and reinvented the form. From Blonde on Blonde to Harvest to Margaritaville, we celebrate Kenny Buttrey.

Need to reread this. Last time was in college, and I dare say a lot of this went over my head lol

Suffice to say the guy who wrote “Makes No Sense at All” (let alone “If I Can’t Change Your Mind”) liked 60s pop!

They do the same cover on the newly released set! It’s great!
