Anytime you can pay $25m/yr for the age 35-37 seasons of a player who has given you roughly Bryson Stott level offensive production for the previous 2 seasons, you just have to do it. (somehow +.006 in slugging and -.015 in OBP is worth +9 points in OPS+)

Stott was the 11th best qualified 2B by wRC+ in 2025. He’s not “great” but he’s a good player, best suited to platoon when everyone is healthy. His 2025 was also better than Bowa’s best year - on base more, more power, same SB. He can be improved upon, would also be easy to find someone worse.

Bowa was a 150lb SS with a career .300 OBP. His best season (1978) compares to Maysn Winn’s 2025 and was over 25% of his career WAR. I’m not sure Bowa gets to AA in today’s game, he wasn’t even a good offensive player in his own era, no one should model their offensive game after his.

Here you go - Boston, Cleveland and SD are the 3 playoff teams with worse offensive catcher performance. Of course I assume none of those teams used the C as the 4 hitter in 25% of the games.

One of these guys was DFA’d by the A’s yesterday. The other is “the best CF on the market”. A team will really have to believe in 2025 to make a multi year leap.
November 19, 2025 at 12:43 PM
Obviously he was great with the Phillies. But I have to be honest, I don’t believe in his 2025 outcomes. I certainly wouldn’t pay $ or years based on them.
November 19, 2025 at 12:36 PM
He was a great deadline pickup, if that performance were sustainable he would be one of the most sought after FAs in the market. So it comes down to how much you believe in his 2025 outcomes. Because before that wasn’t pretty for a long time.
November 17, 2025 at 4:48 PM
Because after May 1 Bohm was significantly better ( >75% of the season) and I doubt the plan is to get more expensive and worse this offseason.
November 15, 2025 at 11:19 PM
He’s cheap and under control, very good defender, good enough hitter against RHP, makes a very good platoon w/Sosa which also gives them depth when someone gets hurt. Glad he’s around!

Min 50 PAs against RHP in 2025:
November 14, 2025 at 4:32 PM
“We need a RH Power Bat”. Phillies ranked 9th in the league against LHP, could be better but they were pretty good. 75% of starters are RHP.

Minimum of 50 PAs so I got everyone, they had 6 guys with a 118 wRC+ or higher against LHP. The rest were 87 or lower. 2 are FA who some want back.
November 14, 2025 at 4:21 PM
I’d call that at least $65m to spend to equal last season final payroll, arb increases aren’t that much and there are guys coming in on the minimum.

2. On Bohm, no way they are dumping him, that would be silly. He’s been approximately the 10th/11th best offensive 3B over 3 years, 6th from 3/1/25.
November 13, 2025 at 3:53 PM
Just a friendly reminder to everyone that just HAS to bring Bader back (23&24, so you better believe in his 25 if you are paying him). Also, hopefully they don’t make Rojas bunt once a game when everyone knows it is coming and he isn’t great at it (if he is indeed back and playing against LHP).
November 13, 2025 at 12:02 AM
I really can’t believe you guys floated “non-tender” on Bohm and Marsh. Both guys would celebrate being non-tendered. Bohm was the 6th best offensive 3B after May 1 last year. Bregman #14. Bohm is around 10/11 by wRC+ over the last 3yrs. If you believe in Miller, Bohm is the perfect 1yr bridge.
November 12, 2025 at 6:44 PM
Why in the world would the Phillies downgrade at 3B? Arenado is completely washed up.
November 12, 2025 at 5:09 PM
Both of these guys become a second FA signing option (probably no JT) if you have the DH spot available to be shared by multiple players.
November 12, 2025 at 4:51 PM
Podcast was good, thanks. I continue to insist however that if I am the Phillies I am not doing anything with Schwarber until Tucker has told me he is absolutely not interested. So many more RHH options in FA if you do not bring back Kyle and it is the easiest avenue to a refresh of the team.
November 12, 2025 at 4:48 PM
He has had a better career than Bohm, I don’t think he’s a better offensive player now. Forget half season, Bregman would have been a downgrade compared to Bohm starting May 1 last year. This is all MLB 3B from May 1.
November 11, 2025 at 5:24 PM
MLB 3B from May 1st this year below. Bregman had one good month, buyer beware.
November 11, 2025 at 5:13 PM
They don’t have bat speed from 2021, so can’t see that here, but he is down from 2023 to 2025. The rest of the bars tell the 21 vs 25 story. Not saying he’s “bad”, but he’s declining and has become more extreme (imo) in his approach to compensate for what he is losing due to injury and age.
November 10, 2025 at 1:29 PM
Why is he swinging more often? Because if he doesn’t hit the first pitch he has not been a very good hitter since the injury.

After a first pitch strike this year he was pretty terrible. Did a ton of damage on 0-0 and 1-0 counts. Once down 0-1 he became Johan Rojas. This wasn’t always the case.
November 10, 2025 at 1:23 PM
Article mentions that Bohm only hit 4th 25 times, but fails to make one mention of the guy who hit 4th the most this season - Castellanos.

Also fails to mention that when Harper had Schwarber hitting behind him and tearing it up, his numbers were no different. If anything slightly worse by wRC+

I wrote this article in tweet form here 11 days ago.

You weren’t THAT harsh, but you and most Phillies fans really undervalue Marsh. By wRC+ in the last 3 seasons among all qualified MLB OF he ranks 26th. In 2025 (400 PA) he ranks 24th. After May 1st (350 PA) 12th. For a team up against their spending limit, that is great production.
November 8, 2025 at 1:29 PM
Unless the guy has been in the fetal position since the end of game 4 unable to leave his house, this is a silly conversation. Need more of him.
November 7, 2025 at 8:39 PM
Bregman was much worse than Bohm after May 1 last year. Bohm was actually really good, just had a brutal first month. He isn’t getting traded as part of a dump.
