Author of the definitive biography of R.E.M., Maps and Legends, 3rd printing available now on eBay and Amazon: https://a.co/d/cCGWPQO I know the civilian name of every member of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Yeah, but also the composition of the central figure of Sandman is pretty much the same on both covers, the only difference being that, in Hulk, Sandy only has one opponent to grab instead of four. I would bet money that Trimpe was directly referencing Kirby's cover for FF #61.

good catch

That Hulk cover seems to nod to this FF cover in particular

Low grade is better than no grade: this trashed flea market find is my #TopShelfFriday, from an era when not everything had to be a lawsuit, because how else can one explain DC so blatantly featuring Spidey and the FF in a DC title? To be fair, Marvel would take similar jabs at DC in Not Brand Echh.

Herb really channelling Jack on that cover

Yes, that's a good point. I don't know enough about Dickens's working process to know if he had a master outline for his serialized novels, or if he was just winging it & doing his best to stick the landing. Pretty clearly his novels are not as well-structured as those of say, Austen, but whose are?

I just started reading the DC Finest Crisis book, and I agree: I like the approach of compiling all of the crossover stories. I didn't know All-Star Squadron was still being published, or that Infinity, Inc. ever existed, so for me this is an interesting snapshot of where DC was at in 1985.

The long run-on sentence that makes up the first few paragraphs is the most overtly modern formal experiment, the rest of the book isn't like that, but, like many of Hardy's later novels, Bleak House is a Victorian novel with one foot in modernism.

Bleak House has proto-modern elements, and is probably his best book. David Copperfield is the best page-turner.

Miles Kane's risible Bad Habits notwithstanding, I agree with Adam that this is the best Alex Turner album the Big Mates have covered to date (and the best that they will ever cover) and further agree with Steve that Miracle Aligner is an addictive earworm.

Before the Internet and before comic shops were widespread, these reprints must have been so welcome to the subset of readers trying to piece together the linewide story that even then Marvel was working on.

such a great cover

Whether he meant to do so or just stumbled into it, Bob Haney somehow uses Mr. Twister to flirt with some environmental justice themes that wouldn't feel out of place in this month's issue of Poison Ivy:

The Black Racer photo collage cover is my favorite

DC is on a roll right now, bringing in cool indie creators & turning them loose on their biggest characters. This is very clever & meta-fictional, maybe almost too clever for its own good, but it plays with both the form and the content of the medium in interesting ways, and it's my #TopShelfFriday

… clearly helped John realize his vision. John never could have turned his demo into what the final record became w/out their help, although of course only John could have written the lyric and come up with the backbone of the music. That's why they were so great, bringing out the best in each other

Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields are two sides of the same coin, and, yeah, they're both pretty much perfect, but, even though I'm more of a Paul guy, if Penny Lane is a 10, then Strawberry Fields has to be an 11. Very rarely does an idea get realized so perfectly, although Paul and George Martin …

Me neither. I've passed on other Adams Batman reprints with the recolored artwork, although I do have the O'Neil/Adams Absolute Green Lantern/Green Arrow with the recolored artwork.
