She sounded amazing on Colbert. I first saw her on the Mike Douglas Show in 1977. What a welcome shot of punk energy she brought to daytime TV! The clips are available on YouTube. Not on YouTube: the moment where Mike complimented her on her shoes, and she said that she had gotten them from a boxer.

Yes, I loved “Just Kids,” a lyrical account of her childhood and young adulthood, especially her relationship with the great photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, one of the most important people in her life.
