I think Ridley Scott tends like historical visuals, aesthetics, and motiffs more than he likes actual historical facts.

Roger can concisely and systematically tell a story from his own life clearly, no matter how personal. During Book 2, he tells his son two stories from his past. One story about his wife, and another about where he came from.
