The guy in the IT team who gets called in when it’s really broken. AuDHD (pending formal diagnosis). Lib Dem. Gay AF, standing with the T. Board games. Travel. A surprising number of very inconvenient allergies.
Like, I don't think it's unreasonable to say everyone who is making these projection figures with clearly flawed methodology should have been fired from their jobs by now unless they can show to the new broom management that they've actively disputed the methodology and tried to have it changed.

The fact that this has happened in the same week that it was announced that the Northumberland Line reopening has had NEARLY TRIPLE the "expected" ridership in its first year of operation is a damning indictment of everything transport-related in this country.

Those two actions would neuter parts the worst of the misinformation ecosystem via X, FB, YouTube, IG, and TikTok.
Instead the far-right fundies have played a blinder by keeping all the focus on adult content.

If the government was serious about online safety they would:
ban algorithmically selected content from being shown in the default interface on all social media platforms (with a carve out for clearly-labelled advertising)
ban the use of "autoplay next video" outside of user-curated playlists

It's remarkable how much of the whole slide in to autocracy thing could have been avoided if lying to the courts or to congressional hearings were sentenced as "this will destroy your entire life".
It's the prime example of a crime where tough sentencing WOULD actually act as a deterrent.

I try to keep my positions on criminal justice on the progressive side, but some stuff is just inexcusable and unforgivable, and it could actually be deterred with tougher sentencing. A "you've not opened instagram in 7 minutes" ping is one of those crimes.
See also wage theft and slum landlords.

They should move the additional rate threshold down from £125140 to £100k but abolish both the childcare cliff edge and the tapered personal allowance withdrawal. People earning £100k-£135k throwing money at their pensions right now would spend some/all of that money instead.
November 14, 2025 at 2:26 PM
I'm constantly amazed at the number of people who believe that if they earn £1 over the higher rate threshold that they'll pay 40% income tax on all of their income. The Child Benefit clawback was definitely motivation for savvy folk, but there will be a lot of people doing the same thing in error.

It's a parody account, right? Like, it must be edgy satire trying to draw attention to how utterly unhinged the overt racists are, yes? Right? Please, please say it's that...
November 13, 2025 at 4:07 PM
I assume that's the cliff edge reduction in the personal savings allowance from £1k to £500 if you pay £1 over the higher rate income tax threshold, and the graph is assuming some income of over £500 from savings interest

After hearing "brace for turbulence" I distinctly remember saying to myself "WTF is he talking about"

That.

That is what he was talking about.

It's much less effort for them to hold a metaphorical gun to the heads of the good people of the country and say "re-elect us or it'll be your fault when Farage becomes PM" in 2028/29.
Basically Starmer and McSweeney looked at how things went for Biden and said "yup, that's how we'll do this".
