This one we voted on… LIVE! At the ceremony. Total surprise. Suppose next year we’ll make it a proper category??

And in the case of transparency, these were my @seattlecritics.bsky.social
picks, along with what I’ll need to watch still from our nominees in the next seven or so days (not pictured, the shorts). We announce the winners next Monday 12/15.

Wish me luck.

No surprise, been very quiet last several days with work and other commitments. In about five minutes, you’ll see part of why. Check in with @seattlecritics.bsky.social as we announce our 2025 film nominees! And then I’ll share what I picked at the end of it all.

So today was a rush, and a whir, and a tapestry of iconic cinema. No regrets whatsoever. @siffnews.bsky.social

Am I saying productivity might be a challenge today? Am I saying this is a stacked SUTS lineup? And will this make things interesting for later tonight, having to choose between Sunset Blvd or the new Naked Gun? Yes, yes, and maybe.

We still miss you, Audrey. #TCMParty

It’d be an understatement to say #SpinalTap still rocks, rolls, and tickles the funny bone after 41 years would be an understatement. Way more. Impactful gamechanger then, witty tonesetter now. Felt right to see it big.

Since when were the hydros imbued with lightning from the gods? Could use some context here.

Today was my worst traffic nitemare. Tried commuting to work then back downtown, barely made it to the office after a detour that took 3.5 hours to reach amid I-90 EB closure. Not in great spirits tonight, but to at least make it safe to Point B, could that still count as a win?

And no… we ain’t forgettin… the downtown cheesecake factory will be missed when it closes… #sakuracon2025

While #sakuracon2025 had its challenges (the fire, and a registration backlog), still could find at least one upside, in the form of some half decent photography. Next time, I’m dressin’ up proper to take a real photo around that garden terrace…

Not everything Ryan Coogler does with his original work #Sinners is done quickly or briskly. But that never once soured the experience of a vampire flick that bites harder than most. Among the year’s best.

The only problem with #Mickey17 is a matter of length and focus. But even that doesn’t faze Bong Joon Ho heightening ambition for long with a scifi tale that nails down broken societies to a narrow T. Pretty much brilliant.

Alex Parkinson’s naive execution left me wanting far more oxygen in #LastBreath. Struggles to break from formula, but can still properly convey the danger and humanism of deep sea diving. Works fine.

#CompanionMovie probably should be more about the fear of AI and robotics as a societal threat. But it has just as much fun deflating that tension and shedding light on real human intelligence. 2025’s first goodie.

This is not how anyone would’ve wanted to hear this news. The former Seven Gables chain will soon be down to two. U District does not need its connection to film further unplug like this. An absolute blow. RIP

Robert Eggers delivers an intoxicating genre laden gem echoing cinema’s experimental past in #Nosferatu. Gets a little convoluted/overly shakespearean in its latter half, not bad enough to sour the experience, though.

Knowing I’m not always best with actually logging, I’ll give the posters instead.

Started with Shayda, ended with the Green Hornet serial. What the journey…
