Using thermal expansion/contraction is typical for assembling press fit components. So i froze my new wheel bearings overnight.
The next day the temp dropped to -8C. Net net, i had heated the bearings up. I wound up having to heat the housing with a torch.
But they’re in.

With all the bad in the world, sometimes you gotta crawl under a car and forget for a couple hours.
So I got the bad rear wheel bearing out. Now to try and get it all back together… presses, pullers, drifts, massive torque wrenches, thermal compression. It’s got it all.

We built a heath h8 in ’77 for our school’s computer club. Our math teacher managed to get funding which seems incredible now. BOCES had a mainframe we could dial into, and the school had a 110 baud Olivetti mechanical terminal. Paper tape, the whole deal. (Below). Trek73!

I just go where the ADHD tells me to. Today that was pulling out the Beetle’s interior to better understand the needed repairs. Driver’s side is much worse than passengers possibly due to a super janky repair someone did years ago with epoxy and chicken wire. argh...

Here’s a gooboy who had been abandoned & abused. He had a scar on his head from eating his way out of a crate.
Years of love and patience have replaced his fear with joy. And that is worth ever single second of work. Thank you for all you do!! #rescuedogs

My grandpa Leo serving in France, barely 18. His father drove an ambulance since he was too old for combat. Later, Leo would drive an ambulance in WW-II while his son John fought. I've always admired service to something larger, and I deeply appreciate it. Wherever, however you served, thank you.
