It’s been an interesting few days in Oslo, where I took part in the Science Europe High-Level Workshop on the European Research Area on behalf of EASSH. I'm always happy to make the case that Social Sciences & Humanities research should be at the heart of all funding programmes #educationalresearch

Musing on how a peacekeeping encounter with the Baluba people in the DRC in the 1960s has left us with a quintessentially Irish phrase for losing control that makes no sense to anyone who does not speak our strange hiberno-English. And yes, we did 'go baloobas'

I have a lot of sympathy for the challenges faced by the Irish language & Irish speakers but its presentation as a plucky insurgent language is absurd given,for example,its official status & mandatory presence in the school curriculum.Perhaps an honest review of why it isn’t used might be timely?
