I’m saddened by the passing of my friend Fred Harris at 94. A U.S. Senator from Oklahoma (1964–1973) and former DNC Chairman, Fred was a champion of civil rights and LBJ’s Great Society programs. My condolences to his wife, Marg, former Chair of the New Mexico Democratic Party.

The DNC deserves a full time chair who is working around the clock to build and strengthen our party. That’s exactly what I’ll do.

The DNC needs to get out of DC for a bit and go to the states—to listen, reconnect with the voters, and restore a strong and resilient party.

As your DNC Chair, that's exactly what I will do.
