Simons was an understudy to Lillard. And I can see the similarities on offense and defense.

Yep, could be. I've always been fascinated by how much situation matters. Like if Derrick White doesn't get to play with Manu Ginobli & Danny Green - I'm sure he'd still be great, but those guys played a huge impact.

Yep. It's wild though, because POR really became a good defense last year - so I'm not sure what happened.

He said something like he's learning how to play defense for the first time... Which was wild. I've seen some improvements, but I don't think some of the bench lineups he's played with have helped.

He didn't get a steal last night. He did have 2 vs the Nets. He's had 8 all year, which is about his career avg.

I don't think he'll ever be a plus defender, but I have seen some things improve already. He's doing a better job of fighting over screens (staying attached).

On defense, the frustration is that he has some tools to be better than he is. He's quick, but he gets no steals. He can really jump, but gets no blocks.

I think Mazzulla is a great coach for him, and I'm pulling for him. It's tough, contract year - new team - new role - different expectations.

I think some of it is he represents what was lost due to the CBA. He never had an intro press conference. Most have assumed he'll be here at most just 1 year.

I've re-watched several times, and I'm always blown away by the acting. Like, some truly great performances.
