A quick personal sketch recap the Bologna Book Fair this year. Super rough and unfiltered, but I find this easier than journalling.

A quick little getaway for winter break with the fam. There was barely any snow, but we made the most of what was there and crazy-carpeted our butts off.

Last night there was a fire directly under us and we were evacuated. Thankfully the buildings in Germany are made of concrete and the fire department reacted fast. No one was hurt. But it was scary! My girls couldn’t fall asleep after. Watch your candles and cables everyone !

I have news! My grant application ”Picture Books and the Art of Play“ has been selected for funding from the Canada Council for the Arts. I am incredibly grateful and excited.

Sick with Covid so I’m breaking through my reading pile. Just finished “The Mythmakers” Graphic Novel by John Hendrix on the friendship of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien- I can recommend it. I learned a lot about the history of stories and was touched by their mutual support of each other’s work.

This is a great idea! I love seeing other illustrators’ sketch process. This is a sketch of a mock-cover for a picture book dummy. I ended up adding a few things and changing the title. If it was for a publisher I would have submitted another sketch after this before making the finished piece.

Funny picture books are the best! This is straight from my sketchbook (bit messy, sorry). This pickle has been popping up in sketches since I was 10. I imagine he’s a funny guy, but I’ve yet to write his story. He used to go by “Monsieur Cornichon” which I think I like better than the name “Pete”.
