Among the gillion reasons Barcelona is my favorite city is that, since it's wedged between a coastal ridge and the sea, its urban grid—the eixample—is on a slope. If you're lost, you can usually work out directions based on whether you're walking uphill or downhill, & on what you see on the horizon!
