I think the Trump-as-king theme is divorced from any idea of popular support. The right knows their agenda is wildly unpopular, but they’re saying that doesn’t matter anymore. They have seized power and are keeping by divine right.

This is not about freedom of speech. Nobody is saying Kirk should not have been allowed to speak. The point is that good people should condemn intolerant positions and people.

There is so much that is so disturbing about this court, but the way they have ignored hundreds of pages of findings based on actual evidence is just flagrant lawlessness.

Maybe there is some cartoonishly ridiculous hypothetical case, like one involving the president’s authority to have political opponents summarily executed. But even that would be a coin toss for at least five of them.

The problem is not the fight for a perfect candidate. The problem is that party leadership won’t tolerate anything that is opposed by the donors writing big checks, even if it means alienating the people that should be a reliable base.

These people mean well, but they’re not class traitors, and their plans don’t go far enough. We need a tax system that ends extreme concentration of wealth. Until there are no billionaires, we will have a dysfunctional society. Maybe start with a 100% estate tax on estates over $1 M.
