Casadei sent off. Midfielder shown a very dubious second yellow card in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Have to feel for him there.

That’ll rule him out of the next game.

Sam Rak-Sakyi and Tyrique George are on for the last few minutes, replacing KDH and Sancho - both of whom have been good

Heidenheim score but, again, the offside flag is up and correctly so.

2-0! Chelsea been a little bit under the cosh in the last 10, but a lovely combo between KDH and Sancho puts him into the box and he cuts back for Mudryk, who lashes home into the top bins.

Another quality goal. #cfc

Nkunku through on goal, 1v1 with the keeper, but shoots straight at him. Then signals to the bench after picking up a knock.

Carney Chukwuemeka is on to replace him

Badiashile and Disasi the gift that keeps on giving (to the opposition).

BB passes to Jorgensen when he’s not ready. Then Disasi tries to let ball out only for Scienza to keep in and he nearly scores.

Chelsea never do it the easy way…

1-0, Nkunku with a brilliant piece of play. Controls a knee-high ball from Sancho and strikes into the corner.

Seven goals in Europe, 11 in total this season. How is he not playing week in, week out? #cfc

Chelsea stepping it up now. Neat move on the edge of the box between Mudryk, KDH and Nkunku.

Later wriggled through 3 defenders but can’t beat the keeper.

Nkunku tries to lob the keeper and it’s a few yards over. That should’ve been 1-0.

Might not be the last, but I seem to remember a lot of negativity towards Ramires when he first arrived. In technical terms he wasn’t great when he signed. Then people saw that engine, acknowledged his desire and he transformed into a cult hero after scoring some important goals.

Van de Zandschlup holds his nerve despite Nadal’s fight back and wins 6-4, 6-4.

Nadal loses, but like a winner. He gave it everything.

Really hope that’s not the end.

Nadal breaks back! The tension is palpable. I think Botic is starting to feel the nerves.

Now to see if he can claw back another game on serve.
November 19, 2024 at 5:54 PM
Van de Zandschlup has just played two sensational forehands to secure the double break. Never seen him play this well.

4-1 up in the second set and it’s pretty much break or bust for Nadal now. He’s giving it everything.
November 19, 2024 at 5:44 PM
Oh wow. That was like watching Rafa roll back the years. The determination to win that point, despite Botic’s best efforts, really was a joy to watch.

He’s fighting to stay in it, but he *is* fighting.
November 19, 2024 at 5:33 PM
Since writing this, Van de Zandschlup has settled and secures the break in the 9th, converting to take the first set 6-4.

Nadal needs to rediscover that intensity he had in the first few games.

Nadal looking a lot sharper than he was when I last watched him play in the Swedish Open in Bastad. Playing some really aggressive forehands as well.

VdZ looks a bit daunted by the occasion and you can’t blame him, given what’s at stake.
