A better bridge between Classic Noir & Neo-Noir than Mitchum's Marlowe movies. Farewell My Lovely is good but its sentimental subplot weighs it down. His Big Sleep is more faithful to the book than the Hawks-Bogie-Baby version but no one cares including Mitchum. Joan Collins is swell as Agnes.

On the one hand, at least this list recognizes movies that were made in the studio era. Most of these lists are written to appeal to youngsters who haven't seen a black & white movie. On the other hand, too many WTFs, too many omissions to take it seriously. It's feels good to rage about the trivial
