Your concerns about California overwhelming the other constituent states in the new country are well-founded. Just talk to our compatriots in Washington and Oregon! Do you really think Canada in unifying? I have my doubts...

The point needs to be made that it is only a good idea to take advantage of this tax deferral if you really need the money to live with dignity. Seniors incurring debt should otherwise be avoided....

I don't trust Stephen Harper, since he would have led Canada into anarchy ahead of the USA if we hadn't voted his deeply paranoid government out of power when we did! Vic Toews was very close to eliminating our constitutional rights to privacy and liberty. Let's not forget this when Stephen speaks!

I'm not condemning those of us who are "plebes" as you put it. By all means boycott Pattison if you wish. Dumping US treasury bonds is a well-proven way to get The Donald's attention. FWIW, the top five holders of U.S. Treasury bonds are Japan, the UK, China, the Cayman Islands, and Canada! 😏

By all means choose to shop elsewhere. Perhaps Walmart, who directly supports The Donald and his minions?

Your choice, but don't delude yourself that the 20 bucks in profit from your trip to his grocery store is significant...even if it's multiplied by 50,000 other people.

Your grocery money isn't a factor in this deal. I can't agree that boycotting the Pattison Group is a good idea, since they have given hundreds of millions to hospitals, Jimmy (and Grace) made Expo 86 successful. Perhaps we need to stay in our lane to solve health care and let the USA find its way.
January 28, 2026 at 6:50 AM
Sure thing...but it's not your money involved in this proposed deal.

I don't think it's any of our business. Pattison is a privately held company and the proposed transaction is in a foreign country. We have bigger issues to pay attention to, IMHO.

What I find unacceptable is local politicians such as yourself and Emily Lowan being well outside your respective lanes on this issue. Lowan is proposing a boycott of a BC business who happens to own a big building in the USA which the government is interested in buying - to accomplished what?

Yes, training LLMs from unauthorized sources is rampant, and the big companies behind them feel entitled.
