Remembering when George Segal and Jessica Walter (stars of 1968’s “Bye Bye Braverman”!) died within one day of each other.

I grew up a bohemian Gen X kid in Brooklyn, with a fairly “Squid and the Whale”-coded youth, and this may not be “a criticism” but it is A READ.

(I don’t have much opinion on Geese. They’re fine but it seems like music for white guys who over-romanticize their college experience.)

Reading this now, and Marx unpacks the post-9/11 shock-and-sleaze culture machine very astutely. I *hated* living through that era — neocon politics, Vice, predatory men and their cult of personality, nightlife being dominated by VC bros — it seemed back then like a harbinger of bigger badness.

I would say older men have always been sexist to a similar degree, but in the 21st century they realized they had to hide it if they wanted any woman to cook them dinner (or hire them!) ever again. This current moment is certainly bringing it all back to the surface!
