Drs. @nsachdeva.bsky.social & Jim Hewitt share about classic studies in Education, starting w/ working memory & cognitive load theory @ #RedTO25. I was just discussing this w/ @numcog.bsky.social over lunch. I wish all teachers learned about this in their BEd training! It changed my teaching so much

Great talk!

Listening to @numcog.bsky.social share about automaticity of math facts. I’m always intrigued by the parallels between math and literacy in both robust research findings and common pushback arguments.

At #redTO25, @j-metsala.bsky.social is delivering a great summary of the history of reading instruction and the alignment and misalignment with research along the way.

I finally got around to looking at the December issue of Nomanis. Looks like there are some great articles in there to bookmark for later reading.

The language that is used in books is different than what is used conversationally. This is one of the reasons why it's crucial to expose children to rich text. Kate Nation & colleagues put together this lovely, open-access review article on this topic: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

Sight words, high frequency words, & orthographic mapping ➡️Important terms for teachers to know & understand, but a lot of confusion exists about them. Dr. Tiffany Peltier breaks them down clearly in this quick and easy read: www.nwea.org/blog/2023/wh...

I love how morphology has the capacity to bring so much vocabulary to light! #EduSky
