I was gripped by Grey Hound’s spare yet haunting prose. Pocock cast a shadow of longing and loss so visceral I held my breath. Ultimately a quiet ache lingered long after the final page.

Thank you to NPR @npr for choosing GREYHOUND in its favourite books of 2025. Very grateful to Bridget Bentz for selecting my strange hybrid road trip of a book!

Very happy for Greyhound to be stocking-stuffer material!

A fine choice by Zinovy Zinik. Pop a copy of Greyhound in your loved one’s stocking. His TLS piece on the Russian translators of Dickens is a beauty

Finished Jan Kerouac’s BABY DRIVER last night. What a book. When I wasn’t reading it, I was dreaming and thinking about it. One of those voices that inhabits you. I wrote in my diary that her sentences are like ‘sweet serotonin hits’. (1)

Still reading Greyhound by Joanna Pocock. I’m on page 239. Reading slowly…I don’t want to get to the end of the book. I love Greyhound. In 1981, at the age of 17, I rode on a Greyhound bus from Detroit to Los Angeles. It was an experience of a lifetime.

Yesterday’s ’read-for-pleasure’ book haul. I have just started Jan Kerouac’s ‘Baby Driver’ with an introduction by Amanda Fortini and I am totally hooked.

I am so grateful to Sophy Roberts for inviting me onto her podcast 'Gone to Timbuktu'. It's so rare for an interviewer to reflect your work back at you in a way that makers you see it differently. Sophy has this ability. (1)

Just finished this mysterious and devastating novel. The character of Molly Fawcett in Jean Stafford’s ‘The Mountain Lion’ (1947) is one of those strange, almost otherworldly characters who live inside you. She will be joining Edna Pontellier, Emma Bovary, Isabel Archer, Effi Briest, (1)

Overheard as I walked through Wanstead today — older man talking to a younger one: “really it’s Robin you ought to talk to. He’s the real expert in concrete poetry.”
Kicking myself that I didn’t ask them who this Robin is!
