keep on building

And now I'm categorizing the complex systems I've worked on into one of the quadrants. Alas, most of them are "accreted" - but at least provides hope that the resultant despair I sometimes feel is not universal to building software!

Time to kick it old school.

At least this UI doesn't change on whim.

I initially thought, oh, they've just hidden the trig functions so maybe I can expand and it'll stay open (and hopefully save my preferences).

Nope, it's a popup fucking menu.

Prime example of ensloppification of UI

Designers are even manage to fuck up calculators. No longer are trig functions one click away in scientific mode. They are two clicks for every time you want to use them.

Have the people that did this ever used a calculator?

Well, mine do anyway....

Shed update - last week has been about installing conduit and ethernet cable. This mezzanine area is above my office and server room.

Finally getting my youtube archive converted and imported into TubeArchivist.

There's a bunch of design choices stuff I don't particularly like, but it is nice to essentially have a personal YouTube now. Only stuff I actively chose to dowload, no slop or algorithmic noise.

Very relaxing.

Coming back to this, Windows always thinks it knows better and reverted.

Try this for permanent fix but no warranties implied, try at own risk.

To fix this, remove the "NZ Aotearoa" keyboard layout, and set to "US". Then things work normally.

This is from a field guide for sabotage during WW2 of how to derail an organisation in meetings.

It made me laugh and how many of these are just common behaviour. I guess this is why it's such an effective subterfuge.

So much insulation!

I highly recommend not ever using Pink Batts.

I used it for the ceiling, and compared to Eliment which I used for the walls, it is:
- more irritating to sinuses and skin
- more expensive
- lower R value

You are essentially paying for a brand name.

Over a week old now, but he is way ahead of the rest so it will be another month or so before he has friends.

Interesting recent paper "How much do language models memorize?"

Implies 3.6 bit per parameter for GPT models, and "grokking" doesn't occur until memory saturation.
