Now that I think about it, it feels as if all those new game systems and side quests are there as filler to make the game not seem short in order to be able to extend it to 3 separate game releases when just one would've suffice.
As always, it was greed.

It has some open world but the focus is on the story linearity, however in rebirth the main focus seems to be a whole tsunami of open world side quests (which you could ignore but would be very left behind in power and itemization). And that was a very bitter pill to swallow for me.

If you like open worlds you will like the second one. I finished the 1st one and loved it, then the second one deterred me and now I'm very demotivated to continue playing.

To be honest, that was a wise choice to wait.

That's another thing, I feel game studios do open world as a lazy tactic. It was cool in a few games but now it's a sign of low effort.
Example: FF7 Remake Intergrade feels like a way better game than FF7 Rebirth and the culprit is the open world.

I still hold up my bad review, I feel it's just a formula that sells as if the devs stumbled to something people liked and are just juicing it. I don't feel that success was intended at all.
Today's games standards and quality levels are miles ahead of that IMO.

I like my games science fiction and compelling stories. For example, FPS games that are realistic I hate, however a fictional universe and fictional guns I like.
Now that I think about it, I hate any realistic game. If it looks like real life, I hate it.

I find it needs to appeal to criminal fantasy to be good and if you were to re-theme the same gameplay to something else it would flop. Maybe I just don't like that kind of gameplay but it's very unappealing to me.
