Github Copilot is best thought of as a thin layer of software engineering prompts/context over foundational models like Claude Sonnet & GPT-5-Codex, + excellent IDE integration. It's very good.

AFAIK Github Copilot was the original Copilot. It was (and is) a good product, but Microsoft couldn't resist capitalizing on the brand and slapping the "Copilot" label on literally anything it did that included the letters "A" and "I" in proximity.

It really depends on the input! if I'm typing in a chat window or something it's really annoying to have to press anything other than enter, but anywhere that multi-line inputs are common, I live in fear of accidentally submitting when I just meant to add a line break.

RStudio is not being abandoned; it's still being actively developed and is getting some of Positron's features, most recently support for the Air code formatter and nicer treatment for errors/warnings in the console.

I'm no fan of the tariffs but I think the glut of incredibly cheap toys from overseas has been bad for parents and kids. I would welcome a world with fewer toys, more carefully purchased.

I have also tried this and didn't enjoy it. There's just no redeeming flavor behind the artificial capsaicin burn.
