The Olympics have me thinking about the metric system for some reason. Maybe some day.

Island Library Number 9.

The Post Office on Water Island in the U.S. Virgin Islands is also a library or sorts.

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Posted - any bird on a post or fence.

Hopefully a pelican on a seawall qualifies.

My office window provided a perfect view of a little snow squall that ripped down the Maumee River in downtown Toledo last week. Visibility went to near zero...for a few minutes. Blue skies and sunshine appeared ten minutes later. Amazing to watch.

Light is everywhere and always tells a story. We're in the depths of winter right now, but the sun spilled through our window this morning and splashed against the wall in our foyer. Such a welcome sight.

Merry Christmas and ho ho ho.

Here's another snapshot through the office window of the (near) tessellation we had on the Maumee River this week. I went to grab a cup of coffee and managed to catch this ray of sunlight splash across the surface as I got back to my desk. Dreary skies returned a minute later.

We've got a near tessellation of the Maumee River in beautiful (and cold) downtown Toledo. Warmer temps are expected this afternoon and will kill any chance at a complete tiling of the river surface. And geese are just built differently.

We don't get to watch much ship traffic on the river this time of year, but I've come to appreciate the geometry of freezing water and melting ice. It's pretty fascinating, actually.

Winter has definitely arrived in Ohio, which has me wishing I was playing shuffleboard in Florida. Time to book a flight.

I Got Next.

A chess player awaits his next challenger, calmly reading to pass time. Meanwhile, two potential players complete a silent negotiation as to who will take a chance, one giving a thumbs up.

If you measure a museum by its stairways, well, The Courtauld Gallery in central London would be near the top of the list. Its collection ranks highly for me, too, but this photograph of the stairwell caught my eye this morning as I looked back on a recent visit.

It’s snowing outside, and here’s Teddy ignoring my attempt to ignore him asking me to put him outside for the fourth time this morning.

Not a particularly great morning, as I’m waking to read the news that Martin Parr has passed away. I’ve enjoyed learning about his work and life over the last several years as my interest in photography and photographers has grown.

Here's the scene and setup for the supermoon photo I posted earlier this week. I was all alone on the banks of the river...or so I thought. You can see a coyote (I think!) walk around a cluster of trees at the end of this clip. He or she noticed me noticing him...and quickly darted away.

We've had quite the run of supermoons lately - last night's was the third of four in a row. The "cold moon" as it's known lived up to its name…I can confirm that it was quite cold down by the river as I waited for it to climb above the river (and bridge!).

I caught this glimpse of the sunrise as I walked away from a spot I had picked for a recent sunrise shoot. I was done for the morning, or so I thought. Didn't expect that…or that black and white would work for a sunrise photograph. I think it does.

This rock is on the way to a favorite photography spot of mine. I rarely think much about it, but noticed it in this perfect light awhile back, and thought it was beautiful. The right light just has a way of doing that.

Is that a Roman arch within a Gothic arch? Why yes, yes it is.

I love the period at the end, not sure why. Like the period in the Wall Street Journal masthead.
