I've created a Substack for my short fiction.

The Nightlands is free and all about creating a space for my weirder, more alternative writing that exists outside of theatre. Stories, strangeness, messages from the deep.

Brilliant combo of writer and organisations. Jack's a singular writer, exploring topics few others are tuned in to. The research opportunities this partnership offers are going to be such a boon to all!

I'll be presenting an extract of my next play at Capital Theatres Studio, Edinburgh. Thursday 20th November, 7:30pm.

Set on a British Overseas Territory in the South Pacific, Catching a Falling Knife explores the interplay between faith and cult.

frankly ridiculous proposal from @dundeecitycouncil.bsky.social here. 100% funding cuts worth £286,000. An astonishing sum of money for any regional theatre to make up for, would lead to a fight for the very survival of Dundee Rep, absolutely mad

Returning here to my pipe dream of a decaying country house in Argyll, where academics in the humanities and social sciences can go for funded ‘retreats’ in exchange for vague proposals. There would be workshops and communal cooking on low budgets.

So I've been following Mali's civil war for almost 3 years now and this is - without a doubt - the most crazy week of the conflict since it first broke out. RU Wagner / Africa Corps unable to hold the sitution together for Goita's military government.

A huge honour to help carry the Taiko Dai at the autumn festivals in Sangawa and Mishima. Unusual for foreigners to carry these, had to be vouched for in order to wear a hoppi and shoulder it. Extremely hard work but so much fun. A properly unique experience to carry these gods to their shrines.

This article reports that hundreds of scholars—"the vast majority" of those surveyed—say the US has moved into authoritarianism. It then gives equal space to a single outlier who says the source of the expert consensus is that those scholars "are coming from the political left." Incredible.
