This study has implications for destigmatising lived experiences of #NSSI and other mental health difficulties among psychologists. It also has implications for #psychology training & clinical supervision, including for considering the ways in which lived experiences can enrich therapeutic practice.

Not surprisingly, we found psychologists have gaps in knowledge of dissociation. More attention to this aspect of training is needed.

Interventions that are effective at reducing emotion dysregulation & characterological & bodily shame, such as compassion & acceptance-based approaches, may complement evidence-based PTSD interventions when working with women who have survived interpersonal trauma.

Our model explained 59% of the variation in PTSD symptoms, indicating the relevance of both emotion dysregulation and shame in the genesis of PTSD symptoms among women interpersonal trauma survivors.
