Yes. Also worth noting that this was only the first chapter getting critiqued. Obviously as the story went on I planned to layer in more details. It was also first person narrative so a lot of the character's personality was pretty established by that tone.

I did a writing seminar recently and got feedback that I didn’t describe my character early enough. The instructor said “The only thing I know about her is that she’s tall, she has a wife and her life is crappy.” And I was like, isn’t that all you need? Why does it matter what color her hair is?
