Honouring Harriet Powers (1837–1910), a pioneering African American quilter and former slave. Through wool, fabric, and storytelling, she created powerful pictorial quilts that carried African appliqué traditions into the craft. Her Pictorial quilts remain cornerstones of textile art history. 🧵🖤

You can get wool in many forms to help grow plants. We have wool that just does not make the cut through our machines. We started using this years ago to help our plants and simply love the results. We now sell this in one-pound bags for you, too.

These long threaders are really nice. One wooden handle for your hand is always nicer. The ability to easily go through material to pull through is essential.

Check them out.

A lot of folks see the finished yarn, roving, or wool—but not the in-between moments.

Right now at the ranch, it’s sorting, planning, checking animals, and getting ready for what’s coming next. Quiet work. Necessary work. Good work.

Every finished piece starts here. Always has. 🐑🧵

Midweek at the ranch looks a little like this.
Animals fed, fibres resting, and the quiet hum of work that doesn’t always show up in photos.

This place reminds us that not everything needs to be rushed or perfected—some things just need steady care and time.

For me, watching the carder hum along is simply enjoyable. Hope you find joy in your day as well.

A new week and a new month have begun. What projects are you going to start? For us, we will be working on some new fleeces. No big surprise, I guess, to anyone, but we are excited nonetheless. Hope you are too with what you start for yourself.

Don't forget that this is the month for love.

Working with wool teaches patience.
Caring for animals teaches responsibility.

Neither is it about perfection. Both are about showing up—every day—doing your small part well.

If you’re making something this weekend, we hope your materials give you permission to slow down.

Wool has a way of reminding us that good things don’t need to be rushed.

Raw wool isn’t dirty—it’s unfinished.

It still carries lanolin, bits of pasture, and the story of the animal it came from. That’s not a flaw. That’s the starting point.

Transformation begins with honesty.

You don’t need to buy anything to visit.

You’re welcome to come see how fibre is washed, opened, and prepared. To ask questions. To walk through the space.

We believe understanding how things are made changes how we value them.

Planters Wool – Natural Wool for Happy Plants

Don’t toss it—plant it! Planters Wool is our discarded but still usable wool, perfect for indoor and outdoor planting projects. Wool is naturally rich in slow-release nitrogen, captured by our sheep as they grow their fleece.

Most days in the mill look like this.

Steady work. Familiar sounds. Wool moving slowly from one form to another.

It’s not dramatic—but it’s honest.

We make batts because they’re forgiving.

They invite experimentation. They don’t demand precision. They meet you where your hands are that day.

Not everything needs to be fast or finished to be worthwhile.

Wool doesn’t need to be perfect to be valuable.

Some of the most useful fiber never becomes yarn. Some become insulation, garden wool, or batts meant to be handled repeatedly.

Here, we try to honour the whole fleece—not just the parts that photograph well.

Quick tip for fibre friends:

When you bring home wool (raw or processed), the best habit you can build is this:
✅ store it sealed
✅ Label the lot
✅ keep it dry
✅ Consider a freezer cycle for extra peace of mind

It’s not glamorous, but it protects your stash and keeps wool happy long-term.
