When will #COP30 wrap up? If recent years are anything to go by, negotiations could last well into next weekend (Baku finished at 5am Sunday morning, 36 hours behind schedule…)

Run don’t walk to see Kyoto at Soho place!

Can’t express just how impressive this play was. (See: a very happy row of Carbon Brief journos and my “Telegraph” press pass)

Already there's talk of #COP29 running into the weekend as negotiations over a new finance deal struggle to get off the ground.

A trend analysis places our gavel at 3:25am on Sunday (just 33.5 hours after the scheduled close).

But will the Baku presidency manage to tame negotiations before then?

It's likely #COP29 will overrun. But by just how much is harder to say.

Since COP1 in 1995, there's been a trend for longer and longer COPs – peaking at a whopping 44 hours overrun in Madrid in 2019.

Last year's COP overran by a modest 23 hours, making it the shortest COP in 6 years.

NEW ANIMATION: China’s cumulative emissions have overtaken the EU for the first time…

…but under future projections, China’s emissions may *never* eclipse the US (despite having just a fraction of the population)
