We did some indigo dyeing in addition to pomegranate and marigold pots. We got all of these colors from just 3 dyes using iron modifiers and overdyeing.

New support spindle from a brand new female spindle maker in Oregon! I just did a little test spin on ‘er and boy she sings! Go check out Sleek Spincraft before her spindles become impossible to buy due to demand!

We did some shibori shape resist samples in my indigo vat. Indigo is a fermentation vat that requires anaerobic microorganisms to use available oxygen to reduce the vat in order for the indigo to become available to attach to the fabric. It’s bright green when you first remove it from the vat!

Some exhaust natural dye studies on fabric and yarns from leftover dye water, reused. All from plants, bugs, trees, roots, lichens, mushrooms, etc.

Natural dyed color shifted fabrics using iron! The above and below are the exact same fabrics but the top was shifted with iron. Pretty fascinating process and it happens almost instantaneously! Really pushes them into the forest and mossy greens, burgundies, grays, and browns. 🌳🦌

PSA 3:

Also botulism is no joke. It is tasteless, odorless, and doesn’t off-gas like other microorganisms and thrives in an anaerobic environment and begins to grow within 48 hours of improper canning. It can kill you from a spoonful or even smelling a jar! You will not know from smell or taste!

PSA Part 2:

be sure to ask the canner/gifter the source of their recipe. If they say “it’s a family recipe” I would not eat it and toss it (for your family’s safety!) The ONLY safe recipes are lab tested recipes from Ball or NCHFP or local extension offices- canning is a strict science not an art!

Annual Pre-Holiday PSA from a canner: if you get a jar as a gift ✨REMOVE THE METAL RING✨

The ring is ONLY used during canning and during transport. You WANT the seal to come off if the contents goes bad. You do NOT want a false seal if there is a leak in the jar. YOUR FAMILY COULD GET VERY SICK!
