My absolute favorite genre: earnest art that has soul, thought, care, and depth to it. A work of love and effort by its creator that is uniquely them, speaking to their desires, fears, aspirations, and more.
But also just absurd nonsense. Wacky bullshit rollercoaster rides.

Elden Ring: really captured the majesty, wonder, and discovery of games in a way I haven't felt in years.
RE2: I was stuck in a hotel for a week with my PS1 and this game back in '98.
CT: The GOAT. My first JRPG, and 100% magic.
Xenogears: A bizarre, ambitious, very rough gem. Utterly unique.

In addition to Erin's post and wonderful chart, here is another: cosmiccoding.com.au/reviews/?l=f...

I'm also gonna recommend my own series, linked below. Like DCC, it's got some surreal murderous critters & cute talking animals.

I hope you find the next book you're looking for!

Sounds good to me! I've been really happy with all your FromSoft books.

How does this differ from "Grace Given"? Is it just an alternative interpretation of Elden Ring's mythos by Vaati instead of SmoughTown?

Hadestown is rough because I always kinda hope it might be different this time like they sing at the beginning and then it never is DAMMIT

It had a lot of plot holes but I legitimately didn't (and don't) care because it was just super fun. Like, yes, there's some very odd narrative decisions in there and some contrived nonsense but Hartnett just seems like he's having a blast and the whole thing is a fun idea so idgaf.

Saw the trailer and got big time "Clock Tower" vibes. It looks phenomenal!

It’s good! Goofy, strange, violent, tragic, funny, tons of heart, and very sincere. Well worth a watch.

Yo! I saw VHD and RC back-to-back (I wanna say Akira too). I think it was when Cartoon Network was first launching or something.

I saw Heavy Metal on late night MTV, I think. I was like, 12. Shit was wild.
