sometimes also streets, software, cities in Hudson City, NJ
Haha, yeah. Like I said, cynical me thought as soon as I saw the proposed 5-year ban, I knew they were coming to NJ, but someone is just signaling they want to get paid to let them come here.

It's not quite zero – they have to be authorized at least in New Jersey / New York – but I think this piece from @schmangee.bsky.social is relevant and very good: bsky.app/profile/schm...

(I don't understand the etiquette point. There's no way to reply to a repost. I'd be replying to TL instead.)

I've worked in both UGC and mental health, but I think it's better to have a reference we can both look at versus appeal to authority. Anxious Generation is very well researched.

Have you read Anxious Generation? There is a lot of hard data around this. Mental health outcomes when it is correlating directly with self-harm rates is not something that can be easily dismissed. Taylor Lorenz is not an expert and would have a long uphill climb to overturn all the science.

Personally I have seen the phone become popular among parents of kids and hybrid-preference work environments (not remote-preference or fully in-person). I think the divide might be the advent of the iPhone. Elder millennial vs late millennial and Gen Z.

There may be some nuance here in whatever bill, but there has been unregulated mass destruction of children's brains these last 15 years. It is on an unprecedented scale and is leading to generational mental health issues never before seen including suicide. Every parent is asking for solutions.

All the writing around it is so incentivized/moralized/politicized to push a point so there's no consistent mental model around it. It's hard to take a curious lenses to try to understand what is really happening.

Yeah, might be an automation.

"The funding ask may have an ingenious solution"

Isn't anyone curious what it is?!

It would be nice to be able to follow particular tech topics. Even when it's posted here, it's not easy to find.

Feeds are hard to use but a more important limit is they confuse ranking with topicality, which are distinct. @danabra.mov has talked about separating the two, for example here: bsky.app/profile/dana...

i think ranking and curation are two completely unrelated competencies and coupling them both as a single interface is a mistake. sure some third parties raise to the task (either to create a good feed or create a good feed builder) but the quality of feed ecosystem feels untapped to me due to this
