My hometown, after many years of planning from the city and neighboring indigenous tribes, finally unveiled the statues that will welcome both residents and tourists alike. It's beautiful.

Info via the 'Bay Mills Indian Community Tribal Chairperson' Facebook page: "Chief Shingabawossin, of the Crane doodem, played a central role in the early governance, diplomacy, and protection of the lands and waters known as Baawating “The Place of the Rapids” known today as Sault Ste. Marie. In the early 1820s, Chief Shingabawossin played a critical role in treaty negotiations. He was a signatory to the 1820 Treaty of Sault Ste. Marie, which although land was ceded to the United States, he also secured for his people perpetual rights to fish at St. Mary’s Falls. His leadership helped guide relationships between the our people and the newcomers who arrived in the 18th and 19th centuries, and many of his descendants continue to reside in Bay Mills Indian Community today. "French missionaries and fur traders also began to venture into this bountiful territory. In 1668, Jesuit Missionary, Father Jacques Marquette named the area Sault de Sainte Marie and thus it became known as the first settlement in the Great Lakes Region. Although occupied by our people for centuries beforehand, it now holds the distinction of being the oldest "city" in Michigan and one of the oldest in the United States. "Chief Shingabawossin was chosen because he was a leader who carried the responsibilities of his people with dignity, strength, and wisdom. By honoring him, we honor the teachings that sustain us as a people. This statue stands as a reminder that our history is alive, our culture continues, and our partnership with our neighboring communities remains strong. Baawating has always been a gathering place - of people, of stories, of nations. This project reflects the spirit of unity and mutual respect that has defined this region for centuries. While my mom & I spent the weekend visiting some relatives, I got back into recreational Lego making.

I'm a bit jealous the mechanical/gear parts didn't exist when I was a kid seeing I never got into Legos then due to being used to Playmobil.

I see Legos equivalent to fidget tools, esp w/ my ADHD.

Yesterday I attended my local Upward Bound reunion being an alumni of the since-defunct program.

It was great seeing my old friends and colleagues there even if I stayed for a short bit.

Academia forever.
Engraved marking from the local building we had our reunion at, to join the other engravings of past local events in said building, as per tradition. It reads "Upward Bound Reunion 7/25/2025".
