Reposting from my main. Also, the reason I was asking about Gyuki/Ushioni is because I’ve been working on this design for my Threadless store.
Crap, I just noticed a spelling error in my original post

Here’s a page on yokai from an issue of the American Shonen Jump that scanned years ago. Unfortunately I don’t know the issue and my friend @samkalensky.com really wants to write about Ear Woman. Can anyone help?

Hmm, joke would be funnier if he was any part frog. Any chocolate cows you can think of? Both readings of his name mean “cow oni”. He’s also a spider for some reason.

So how many of you call this yokai “Gyuki” and how many of you call it “Ushioni”?

My friend @samkalensky.com is making a sticker of Kurayaro (a saddle turned yokai) and asked me if I could figure out what part of the saddle this pipe-shaped thing could be. I of course had to make the joke (read the alt text if you need more context)

If you want to see more art by Tatsuya Morino you can see a bunch of his illustrations for a book on gothic stories

There’s also this panel where the narration and dialogue get mixed up.
Between this and the yokai book that stank of AI translation, I’m deeply concerned about the quality of Tuttle

I was very concerned when the first page with dialogue was formatted left to right when the book is printed right to left and thought the whole book might be like that. Fortunately, it wasn’t but that’s a horrendously rookie mistake that should’ve been corrected

My birthday trip to Little Tokyo didn’t go as well as other years but I was overjoyed to find a comic illustrated by Tatsuya Morino- the same illustrator of Yokai Attack! The stories here are fantastic- some sweet, some scary- and I highly recommend it. (Even if there’s some layout errors)

My poor papercraft tengu. He fell off my shelf suddenly and now his sword’s bent and his fan’s broken. How can I fix him?😢👺

Unfortunately I have to add that it attributes the kappa’s habit of bowing when bowed to simply the fact that it’s Japanese. A statement that reduces Japanese people to a stereotype and erases impolite yokai

The book here is Encyclopedia of Legendary Creatures by Tom McGowen and illustrated by Victor G. Ambrus. I love this book and its illustrations.

A lot of books used to describe kappa as “ape-like” in some way. Which I can understand in terms of size and body shape but this book straight up depicts it as a chimera-type monster

I have a book on ninja with a random picture of Tesso in it and no explanation as to why. I imagine someone saw this image and thought, “Look! It’s Splinter from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!” and just added him to the book to be funny

And here’s the keshi I got: gyuki, kappa, Kigimuna and that giant yokai the tanuki summon. Both bags I got had a little paper that I can’t entirely read.

Did you wonder why the nightmares in Delicious in Dungeon looked like clams? Or why they’re supposedly related to dragons? It’s because they’re based on this yokai!
