This will force innumerable people to return to homelessness, and for those living with HIV, there are implications for their ability to maintain viral suppression. Despite advancements, deaths related to complications with HIV/AIDS still happen. The harms this NOFO will cause are immeasurable. 6/

In Chicago at least, LGBTQ and BIPOC folx are disproportionately affected both by homelessness and HIV. This likely translates across the US. The recent NOFO ignores all of this and stands to strip permanent supportive housing from potentially thousands of community members in Chicago alone. 5/

People who have been homeless and are living with HIV are able to focus more easily on accessing care and reducing/suppressing their viral load when they no longer have to worry whether they’ll be safe/warm wherever they’re able to sleep at night. 4/

In the richest country in the world, no one should have to face homelessness, yet this regime’s cruel NOFO changes decades of evidence-based housing policy. Housing is healthcare, and in my work with community members who are living with HIV, I’ve seen this evidenced. 3/

For the last 10 years, I’ve worked with community members across Chicago who are in permanent supportive housing after having experienced homeless. I’ve witnessed their resilience in the face of trauma histories and their love for life in the face of a society built against them. 2/
