Did your parents take you to art museums as a kid? Was there a painting you always found and stared at for a long time?

Here's mine: John Martin's Seventh Plague of Egypt; at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.

One of the default feeds, For You, that users get in onboarding is built by the @skygaze.io team. While we look like a Twitter alt, under the hood, feeds and moderation services can be run by many different parties. Bluesky is social run by many people and not just one company 🦋

atproto internals can look intimidating at times, but it's possible to hack together a minimal but federation-capable PDS in just a couple of days

(picopds is not production-quality software though, its main purpose was/is to help me understand the protocol)

Building a great social experience isn't just eng—there are tons of nuanced, non-tech decisions—but the eng is necessary (and very hard). The beauty of at proto is it abstracts away a lot of the eng work so people _can_ focus on the hard non-eng work
As for who else would build? Here are some 3rd party devs who are going to be better at answering this ques @retr0-id.translate.goog @jett.ai @cooperedmunds.bsky.social @avellal14.bsky.social @mozzius.dev

Made a lil tool for resolving a Bluesky handle to a DID. Also gives you some fun extra info like their PDS and join date

One thing I really like about the For You feed is that it does a full remix when you refresh. It kind of frees me from mentally tracking where I am in the scroll. I just reload it whenever bsky.app/profile/did:... cc @hi.skygaze.io
