best summary I've read of COP, noting the increasing militarisation of the event - to protect fossil fuel interests.
“Why are military emissions still not on the agenda here?”

@militaryemissions.org reflects on #COP30, the little that it achieved for the global climate, and on the growing public pressure for #military and conflict GHG emissions to be addressed, somehow. ceobs.org/remind-us-wh...

I spoke to a person last week who does policy for the BC government. They are told that they have to use AI, and their job is now to correct all the mistakes it makes.

-> @nichecanada.bsky.social has published 257 posts in 2025 alone. A the vast majority of those posts are full-length blog posts, articles really.

Do you know another history or environmental blog publishing at that rate?

We are reaching the end of our @nichecanada.bsky.social fundraising campaign & we are still 31% away from our goal.

I owe a great deal to this group, & I also put SO MUCH labour into this community. More than ever, environmental knowledge needs to be protected & supported.

A conventional and straightforward legal analysis of US operations in the Caribbean and E Pacific putatively involving drug trafficking, concluding that these operations are illegal and the homicides resulting from them are extrajudicial executions for which the perpetrators can be held to account.

Spending the day meeting with undergrads in 20 minute Zoom intervals to discuss the rough drafts of their 20-page research papers, which I line-edited.

They’ll be better writers and historians when they leave my class. I’m proud of them.

I’m also pooped.

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.

New article from me about the Marshall Islands becoming the first country with a Universal Basic Income, what the details are, how it came to be, and what may come next.

Side note: It's hard to express how big a deal this is, especially for me personally. I hope this is the first of many dominoes.
