Indianapolis City County Councilor, District 13.

Join DSA. A better world is possible!
Politicians at the federal level want to keep us safe from our own consumer choices.

Politicians at the local level refuse to act with urgency to save lives on our streets.

My latest constituent email, Death and Politics, in the comments.

What the fuck?!

You have GOT to be kidding me.

Indianapolis just agreed to settle with AES, accepting a 6.51% rate increase for residential customers.

Totally ignoring the unanimous resolution from the City-Count Council just last week!

George Hornedo has a secret section of his website, not accessible via the navigation menu. It details his "Israel Policy".

It's for Zionist donors to see, but not for other folks browsing his site.

And it's absolutely horrific in its warmongering.

Kroger workers are fighting for justice. 8,000 of them are demanding a fair contract from their massive employer.
I'm proud to be among a group of six City County Councilors promising that if the workers are forced to strike, we will honor the picket line and boycott Kroger for the duration.

AES is asking regulators for the permission to raise electricity rates by 13.5%.
Councilor Jared Evans, @nickroberts317.bsky.social and I are asking the Office of Utility Consumer Counselor to insist upon five public hearings - one in each quarter of the city, and another downtown.

Breaking news!

Councilor Ali Brown and her husband took $7,000 from RISE INDY last year for political consulting.
Wonder if that's why she didn't say a word in defense of public education in caucus before voting to kick me out!

Forgive the lack of alt text. I'll amend this later. Writing from the floor of the Council.

These messages went out to parents in the last 24 hours.

Despite the title saying "stop the state takeover", the messages encourage IPS to give away resources to charters (which is the same thing the state bills would do!).

Vichy France behavior. Absolutely disgusting.

Technically the CIB is involved in the deal as well. But yes - my understanding as of today is that the city is getting no money for the land, and will not receive tax revenue in the future.

I asked these follow up questions Thursday and am waiting for a response:

Homelessness in Indianapolis has reached the level of a crisis.

Hundreds of people are evicted every month, affordable housing is nowhere to be found, and more and more families are struggling, while our public housing agency is failing.

Mayor Hogsett must rally resources to solve this problem.

Today, I spent four hours on the picket line supporting the nationwide strike against Amazon.

I'll be out there for seven more hours tomorrow.

Why?

Because the only way we build a better world is through solidarity.

Teamsters are fighting for all of us. Let's fight alongside them!

I have had this on my website's issues page since before I was elected.

I was one of about four politicians in my entire state to come out to the statehouse for a rally in support of full rights for all trans people.

I joined supporters in a direct action, marching to a right wing politician's house and covering their yard sign with a trans flag.

This comment clearly got under my skin. Which you can find funny if you like. But seriously you're calling me a lib in response to this speech?

Don't (just) mourn.

Organize.

I sign off all of my emails with "In love and solidarity, Jesse". That's because I believe we are called to love one another, to fight for one another, to demand justice for one another. On Valentine's Day, I hope everyone gets to experience romantic love and companionship.
