November is Trans Awareness Month. At a time when trans rights are under attack nationally, California has been leading the way in advancing rights. I am proud to stand with the LGBTQ community in approving legislation to protect gender-affirming care and patient privacy.

California’s efforts to preserve our offshore natural resources has been vital in protecting local economies and advancing our climate goals. I strongly oppose offshore drilling, which undermines the progress we have made. We can meet our energy needs without risking oil spills.

The shutdown is not stopping Congress from threatening states' rights while harming public safety. H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Mandate, would let people from other states ignore state laws and carry guns without a permit. I call on Congress to oppose this dangerous legislation.

I recently toured the Contra Costa Superior Court to hear about the work and challenges our courts face and plans to expand to meet the growing needs of the community. I visited the family law and self help division, which processes 400-500 cases a month.
