November is Trans Awareness Month. At a time when trans rights are under attack nationally, California has been leading the way in advancing rights. I am proud to stand with the LGBTQ community in approving legislation to protect gender-affirming care and patient privacy.

California’s efforts to preserve our offshore natural resources has been vital in protecting local economies and advancing our climate goals. I strongly oppose offshore drilling, which undermines the progress we have made. We can meet our energy needs without risking oil spills.

Today I hosted a hearing on the federal impacts on CalFresh, which 5.5 million Californians rely on. Because of Trump's actions, 395,000 Californians could lose coverage. I am committed to protecting communities from devastating long-term cuts to SNAP. sd07.senate.ca.gov/news/395000-...

The shutdown is not stopping Congress from threatening states' rights while harming public safety. H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Mandate, would let people from other states ignore state laws and carry guns without a permit. I call on Congress to oppose this dangerous legislation.

This weekend I joined the Fruitvale neighborhood in celebrating Día de Muertos. The family-friendly festival brought the community together in remembrance of our ancestors and recognizing the importance of immigrant communities.

This morning, I joined elected and law enforcement officials throughout the region to collaborate on reducing gun violence. Thanks to the California Violence Intervention & Prevention (CalVIP) Program, we are providing grants to help local communities disrupt cycles of violence.

I recently toured the Contra Costa Superior Court to hear about the work and challenges our courts face and plans to expand to meet the growing needs of the community. I visited the family law and self help division, which processes 400-500 cases a month.

Oakland knows how to celebrate! Yesterday, the Ballers held their victory parade after becoming Champions of the Pioneer League, showcasing just how much love and support there is in the Oakland community. Congratulations and look forward to more success next season.

East Bay leaders recently gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of Chris Peeples, a distinguished leader and advocate for public transit who served on the AC Transit Board of Directors for 28 years. We must build upon his legacy in uplifting communities with compassion.
