In 1935, shortly after he came to the United States, the future Rabbi Plaut received an eloquent lesson in textual interpretation and the reader’s need for a learned guide. Newly arrived in Cincinnati, he was shown an article in the sports section of a local newspaper by his fellow seminarians. Glancing at the headline, he recalled years later, he thought the article was about a revolution in Italy. This is a good excuse to share one of the best corrections to ever appear in the NYT.
A correction was made on May 30, 1993: Because of a transmission error, an interview in the Egos & Ids column on May 16 with Mary Matalin, the former deputy manager of the Bush campaign who is a co-host of a new talk show on CNBC, quoted her incorrectly on the talk show host Rush Limbaugh. The Italian word is farfalla (bow tie pasta is butterfly pasta there), and that may have been part of the inspiration for the Hebrew word.
Screenshot or a tweet: 🦋 The Hebrew word for "butterfly" פַּרְפַר (pɑʁˈpɑʁ) was coined by Eliezer Ben-Yehuda in 1892. Interestingly, in the Bible, פרפר refers to a river near Damascus. Ben-Yehuda was inspired by the Italian word "farfalla" and the Mishnaic Hebrew verb פִּרְפֵּר, meaning "twitch."

I’m gonna disagree with the rabbis here and say that “you shouldn’t use an elephant’s carcass as the wall of your sukkah” is such an obvious rule that nobody felt the need to spell it out.
In the case where one established a wall with a tied elephant, everyone agrees that the sukka is fit, as even if it dies and falls, its carcass still has a height of ten handbreadths and is fit for the wall of a sukka.
