It's nothing personal, but on a topic as impactful as this I can't let some claims go unchallenged. Optimism and acceptance are good values, but they shouldn't blind us to the possibility and need to change our world for the better. I'll leave it at that. Have a good day

Using their product is being complicit with their practices. You can't eat your cake and keep it too.

Unless you're using a model you trained yourself running on your own hardware, you are directly contributing to all those issues. That's the judgement people have to make: accept these companies' product, warts and all, and be complicit, or reject Gen AI companies outright.

That that's not better is subjective. That Gen AI companies scrape content, spread disinformation, generate child sexually explicit material, and contaminate water supplies is objective fact.

That's not better. They're investing in the content-stealing, lie-spreading, CSEM-generating, water-poisoning corporate bubble. It doesn't matter what their motivations are.

Though it should be noted the CEO is not against the use of generative AI, as his studio does use it in their process. He just understands that human-made work is of higher quality. For him, it's a matter of cost-benefit analysis, not a matter of ethics.

There are plenty of forums where people just draw other people's OCs for free. And if that doesn't work, you can always just draw it yourself. No need to stoop to AI which is literally poisoning people's water supplies and setting back climate goals by decades
